Overview
My
Auction Search is a dedicated Web browser and
search management tool for searching eBay and other auction sites. You can
organize, save and launch your most common auction searches and display
them in either a single summarized list or a multiple browser format.
The program also lets you save extended search options, such as
auction category, min/max price, with each search.
The program has the following three main windows:

Main Program window |
This window is where you run all of your auction searches, view the results and display auction items.

Search Options window |
This window lets you edit and save all of the search options for a specific search. |
Lookup eBay Category window |
This window lets you lookup and select any eBay auction category or sub-category
to base a search on. |

The main window has the following
six major tools. You can also resize the program's split-screen by clicking and dragging
between the toolbar on the left and the web page display area on the right.
Main Menu |
Provides access to
commands such as exit porgram, switch between open
browser windows, and open the Help system. |
Main Toolbar |
Lets you arrange the browser windows you have open in a
cascade, horizontal or vertical format. A "Stop All" button is also available
so you can stop the current search.

Search Auctions Tab |
This tab lets you select and launch any of
your searches. Also has a button to add and edit searches. |
Browse Results Tab |
This tab displays the auction search results in a
dedicated browser on the left side of the program. This allows you to always have the search results showing so you can
click on an item and have it display in a separate browser window to the right.

Track Auctions Tab |
This tab displays a list of all the auctions and web pages
that you have bookmarked. You can add, delete and view bookmarks with the buttons on this tab.

Web Page Display Area |
This area lets you display multiple auction items at the
same time in separte browser windows.

Using

porgram, control and switch between the open browser windows and
access the Help system.

Using
the Main Toolbar Back to top The Main toolbar lets
you arrange and control the browser windows that you have open. You can
arrange the windows in a cascade, horizontal or vertical format. The
toolbar also has a URL address box so you can browse to any other web
page.
Choose Options menu \ View Main Toolbar to turn
this toolbar on and off.
The X button minimizes the Main
toolbar. The V button restores the Main toolbar to its regular
height.

button:

Displays a new web browser and opens the web link that you typed
in the URL textbox.

button:

Closes all currently opened browsers. |

Arranges browsers horizontally.
|

Vertical
button:
|
Arranges browsers vertically.

Arranges browsers in a cascade format.

auction items and web pages you have opened. |

Bookmarks the currently displayed auction item or web page.

Using the Search Autions
Tab Back to top The Search tab is the place where you manage all of your
auction searches. This tab lets you enter, edit, select, and launch any of
your searches.
This tab is divided into two minor tabs;
Single Search and Multiple Search Tab. These tabs let you either search
for one single phrase - or - let you select one of your saved search
groups to search for multiple phrases.
Note: The Search
and Browse tabs can be minimized out of the way as follows: Use the X buton to minimize the
Search and Browse tabs over to the left. Use
the > button to restore these tabs to their original
size.
Search
Button
Click the Search
button to launch a search for either the search text you have entered or
for the current Search Group you have selected.
The search will launch based on what tab (Single Search or Multiple Search)
is currently being displayed.
Display Options: These options control where the search
results will be displayed.

Display Results in a Single
List
|
(Default) Search results will be
summarized in one continuous list and displayed on the Browse Results tab. |
|
Display Results in
Separate Browsers
|
Closes all currently opened browsers and
displays the search results in a new browser
window(s).
A separate web browser window
will open and display for each search
phrase.

If you are running a
single search, then only one browser will
open.
-
If you are running a
multiple search, then a browser will open for search phrase in the
group. A maximum of up to 10 browsers
will open.

Global Search Options These options apply to all single and
multiple searches that you do.

Search Completed
Auctions
|
Looks for auctions
that have ended. |

Records |
Number of
search results to display per page. You can set this to either 25,
50, 70 or 100. |

Sort
by
|
Sort order for auction results. Available options
include:
- Items ending
first
- Newly listed items
first
- Lowest prices
first
- Highest prices
first
|
Single Search
tab This tab lets you do a quick single
auction search. You can select a different auction web site or, if you want, you can
click the More Search Options button to set any search option.

Search Text
box
|
Type in the search text you want to search for. |

Select the online auction site you want to search.
Choose from:
- eBay
- eBay - Stores
- eBay - Seller
- eBay - Buyer
- eBay - Item Number
- Half.com

Options ... button
|
Opens
the Searche Options window. Allows you to set the search options for the current search. |
Multiple Search
tab This tab is where you manage and launch your saved groups
of auction searches. You can create search groups and then add up to
10 search phrases to each group.
Search Group This area lets you
select and manage all of your saved Search Groups. A search Group is a
collection of search phrases that you frequently search for.

Add
|
Displays a window for you to add
a new Search Group. Enter a name for the group in the
text box that appears.The new group will
then be displayed in the drop-down list. |
Edit
|
Displays a window for you
to edit an existing Search Group.

Click Edit
- Modify the name of the Search Group in the
text box that appears.
- Click "OK".

| Delete |
Deletes the currently selected Search Group.
CAUTION:
Deleting a Search Group will delete the group AND
all of the phrases that belong to
it.

Search Text &
Options
This area displays all of the Search
Phrases in the currently selected Search group.A
Search Phrase is the actual text you want to search for. You can add up to
10 Search Phrases to each Search Group. Enter variations of the same
phrase to be sure you find all the different ways sellers may have titled
their ads.
Use this area to select and manage all of your saved search text
as follows.

Add
|
Displays the Search Options window so yu
can add a new search phrase. |

Edit
|
Displays the
Search Options window so yu can edit an existing search
phrase.
SHORTCUT: You
can also double click on a Search Phrase to do same as clicking the Edit
button.

| Delete |
Deletes the currently selected Search Phrase. |
Using the Browse Results

This
tab has a dedicated browser just for displaying the current auction search results. This way you
always have the results showing and you can click on an item and have it display in the program's Web Page Display area.
NOTE:
The results will only display here if have selected the "Display Results in a Single
List" option located on the Search tab.
The Browse Results tab has
the following buttons.

Get Next Page of
Results
|
Click this button if you search has multiple pages (more than 50 items)
and you want to retrieve the next set of results. |
|
Print Results
... |
Click the "Print" button to
print out the list of search results or whatever is currently
displayed in the Results browser. |
Using the Track Auctions Tab

Use the list and buttons on this tab to bookmark, manage
and view the auctions you want to keep track of. You can also bookmark regular web pages too.
The Track Auctions tab has
the following buttons.

Add
|
Bookmarks the currently displayed auction item or web page.
|
|
Delete |
Deletes the bookmarked entry that is currently selected
in the list of bookmarks. |
|
View |
Select a bookmark from the list and click
this "View" button to display the selected auction item or web
page. NOTE: You can also
just double-click directly on a bookmark in the list to display
the auction or web page. |

This window lets you
set search options for either a single search or any Search Phrase in a Search
Group. The window displays when you do any of the following
...
- Click the
More Search Options button for a single
search.
- Click either
the Add or Edit button for a search phrase in a Search
Group.
Set the
search options you want and then click OK to save them and return back to Main program window
Buttons:

OK
|
Closes the form and saves the changes you
made for the search text and all of the options.
You can click the OK button or press the <Enter>
key.

Cancel
|
Closes the form and
does not save any changes.
You can
click the Cancel button or press the <Esc>
key.

are available for setting your
search text.

enter the text you want to search for.

- All words - find auctions that have all these
words in the title
- Any words - find auctions that
can have any of the words in the title
- Exact phrase - find auctions that
only have the exact sequence of search text you entered.

|
Choose between searching only the
title of an auction or searching the title and its description.
- Title Only - Only search
auction titles
- Title & Desciption -
Look for matching text in both the auctions title and
description

| Exclude
Text |
Enter the text you
don't want to include in your search. Separate each word wih a space
- no extra characters are
needed.

|
Select the auction site or sub-site you want to search |

Buy it
Now
|
Only search for
auctions that have the buy it now features.

Seller Accepts PayPal Payment
|
Only search for
auctions where the seller accepts PayPal.

Auction Category
|
This option is available only for
eBay and Half.com sites. For eBay, you can either select one of eBay's major categories
OR enter a specific eBay sub-category.
Select a major eBay Category:
-
Select the category from the pick list.
Enter a specific eBay category number:
- Category Name - required field,
but can be any text you want
- Category Number - required field, must be
a valid eBay category or sub-category number
- Lookup eBay
Category ... button - Click this button to open a window that will
allow you to browse and select from ANY of eBay's 1000's of
categories.

Advanced Search Options Back to top The following advanced auction
search options are available.

Price Range
|
Enter a minimum and/or maximum price range
for the items you want to find.

Min - enter a number value

Max - enter a number value

Auction Location
|
Choose one or the other,
Region or Country
- Region - select a region
from the list
- Country - select a country from
the list (
eBay's default is
English speaking countries)

Lookup eBay Category

Use this window to browse and select any of eBay's auction
categories or sub-categories.
The basic steps for looking up and selecting an auction category
are ...
1. Browse to the major eBay category that contains
the sub-category you want 2. Double click on a sub-category name and number to
select it.
This
window has a toolbar
and the following buttons and text boxes ...
Buttons:

eBay Category Page
|
Navigates the browser to eBay's category page - the ne that includes category
numbers - not number of items in each for sale. |

Reset
Fields |
Clears the Category Name
and Category Number text boxes. |

|
Saves your selection and
returns to the Search Options window. |

Changes are not
saved and you return to the Search Options
window |

SHORTCUT: Double click on the text in the
web browser and it will automatically appear in this text box.

Browser
Toolbar: This is a standard browser
toolbar to control the browser
in the Auction Category window.
- Back - goes back to previous
page
- Forward - goes back the original page after pressing the back
button
- Stop - stops the browser from
navigating
- Refresh - refreshes the current
page
- Print - prints the current
page
